Finding a Way: Paintings and Drawings

Gregory S. Rogers is an independent painter based in Boston, Massachusetts, whose practice is deeply intertwined with his lived experience and his unique spatial environment. Born without arms (amelia and phocomelia), Rogers paints exclusively with his feet—a methodology that informs his distinct perspective in a world constructed for "handedness." 

He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2000, studying under Professor Kofi Kayiga. While his early career focused on traditional still lifes, his work has evolved into a profound exploration of abstract expressionism and mixed media.
Working from his studio loft in the historic Walter Baker Administration Building in Dorchester, Rogers navigates the significant physical challenges posed by severe

 scoliosis by using his workspace as a fluid, immersive ecosystem for creation, reflection, and physical rest. His oil paintings serve as a non-judgmental language, translating the complex, layered emotions of navigating societal reactions and physical constraints into a visual theory of form and color. Rogers is a regular exhibitor at prominent regional art events, including the Paradise City Arts Festivals and the New England Visionary Artists Museum.
